I’m a Washington, D.C.-based writer and visual storyteller, and though my professional background includes many years as a journalist and nonprofit communications strategist, photography has been a big part of my life for the past 16 years.
I’ve shot thousands of photos for nonprofit, corporate and individual clients. I founded the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival in Washington, D.C. (2018-2021), published three Kickstarter-funded photo books and helped launch the iWitness Institute for Visual Journalism at Florida International University.
I’m also the founder of f8Photographic Workshops — immersive travel photography experiences designed to help photographers move beyond the postcard.
My background is in media strategy — nearly two decades working on democracy and government accountability in D.C. and four years teaching public interest communications as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida. My earlier years were spent as a reporter and editor at Florida newspapers. That foundation shapes everything about how I see photography as a tool for connection and meaning, not just documentation
